I was born in Boston, MA, on July 22, 1966. I grew up in New Jersey, in Metuchen.
I spent 5 years at the University of Texas at Austin getting a BS in Physics and Mathematics. I came close to getting a third degree in computer science but decided to spend a year learning photography instead. I then attended the University of Rochester for my PhD. After 5 and a half years working on the discovery of top quark at the CDF experiment, I received my degree.
I then worked as a post-doctoral fellow at Brown University and switched to the DZERO experiment. Finally, in 1999 I was hired as an assistant professor at the University of Washington, Seattle. I’ve been teaching classes and doing research on DZERO since. I just received tenure in June of 2004.
There have been a lot of changes in my life recently. I married Paula in August of 2004. We met when I interviewed at the UW: Paula is another professor in the Physics Department. And in 2003 we purchased a condo in Belltown, downtown Seattle; by far the largest thing either of us have ever owned. Perhaps the main reason for living in Belltown is the wealth of excellent restaurants; we are regulars there.
My spare time is filled by a variety of activities. I desperately try to keep up with the New York Times, the Economist, and the New Yorker. I take a lot of pictures, though I haven't figured out how to show them to the world yet. And every chance I get, I go to see live music.
I lived in Chicago while I was a graduate student and a post-doc -- almost 10 years -- and I have a large network of friends there. My travel schedule means I often go out to the bars in Chicago.
