Large-aperture Synoptic Survey Telescope. A proposed wide-field ground-based optical telescope that will survey a major fraction of the sky every few days. It will enable studies of weak gravitational lensing that will provide constraints on dark matter and dark energy in the universe. Other applications include the search for near-Earth asteroids that could potentially collide with the Earth.
