In October 2023 we will celebrate the search for dark matter in Tartu. For this, we have the event "Cosmic Verses on Dark Matter Night" on 19 October, complemented by warm-up and afterparty events for the general public.
Our aim is to promote awareness of a mysterious ingredient in our understanding of the Universe. Specifically, the event aims to showcase the work of scientists from three Estonian research institutions, namely the Tartu Observatory, the Theoretical Physics Laboratory (both at the University of Tartu) and the Tallinn Institute of Computational and High Energy Physics.
- Warming up: public talk by Rain Kipper at the old Tähetorn Tartu Observatory in Tartu, in the city centre, on Tuesday 17 October.
- Cosmic verse on Dark Matter Night at the Gen Club on Thursday 19 October. The event begins with a public talk by Laur Järv and María Benito, followed by a panel discussion with additional researcher Manuel Hohmann. The event ends with a concert by former Tartu Observatory researcher Jukka Nevalainen.
- During the month of October, children visiting the Tartu Observatory will participate in a series of activities related to dark matter.
- Afterparty: public talk by Elmo Tempel at the Tartu Observatory on Friday 27 October, and public talk by Maret Einasto at the former Tartu Tähetorn Observatory in the centre of Tartu on Tuesday 7 November.
