EN: Starting Friday evening, July 1, an animation of particle collisions will be visible on the facade of a tower at Amsterdam Science Park for several evenings after dusk. The show in honour of the 10th anniversary of the discovery of the Higgs particle will remain visible through the night of July 4, ten years to the day since the discovery was announced at CERN. A short video of the event will appear on the Nikhef website later.
DU: Vanaf vrijdagavond 1 juli zal een animatie van deeltjesbotsingen op de gevel van een toren op Amsterdam Science Park een aantal avonden na invallen van de schemering te zien zijn. De show ter ere van de tiende verjaardag van de ontdekking van het higgsdeeltje blijft zichtbaar tot en met de nacht van 4 juli, de dag dat tien jaar geleden op CERN de ontdekking werd aangekondigd. Een korte video van het evenement zal later op de website van Nikhef verschijnen.

Following the discovery, Peter Higgs and François Englert received the Nobel Prize in Physics. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the discovery of the Higgs boson, join us for a special evening at the Globe of Science and Innovation on Sunday 3 July at 5.00 p.m. Discussion with Mark Levinson, Film Director, and Walter Murch, Film Editor and Academy Awards Oscar winner. We celebrate the 10th birthday of the Higgs discovery with an informative walk through Irchelpark on July 3 and 4. On Sunday, July 3rd, UZH physicists will be there to answer questions - they will be easily recognisable with their special t-shirts. EN: This year physicists celebrate the 10th anniversary of the discovery of the Higgs Boson. On Sunday afternoon 3 July in debate centre De Balie, Nikhef will take the public on a journey along the wonders of the Higgs Boson and our universe. Higgs hunters from the past and present will talk about particle research, the theory behind the unique particle and the challenges of the field. With researchers Ivo van Vulpen, Melissa van Beekveld, Stan Bentvelsen and Patrick Decowski. Music by Bonnie Kemplay, the granddaughter of Nobel Prize winner and theoretician Peter Higgs.
DU: Natuurkundigen vieren dit jaar de tiende verjaardag van de ontdekking van het higgsdeeltje. Op zondagmiddag 3 juli gaat Nikhef samen met het publiek in debatcentrum De Balie op ontdekkingstocht naar de wonderen van het higgsdeeltje en ons universum. Higgs-jagers van toen en nu nemen het publiek mee in het deeltjesonderzoek, de theorie achter het unieke deeltje en de uitdagingen van het vakgebied. EN: As members of the ATLAS particle detector experiment, researchers from the University of Bern played a key role in the sensational discovery of the Higgs boson 10 years ago. To celebrate the anniversary, the Laboratory for High Energy Physics (LHEP) and the Albert Einstein Center (AEC) invite you to the screening of the film Particle Fever (English). This documented the experiments at CERN that led to the identification of the Higgs boson. Before that, current and former members of the Bernese ATLAS group classify the significance of the discovery. Questions and aperitif afterwards.

EN: In 2022, CERN celebrates the 10th anniversary of the discovery of the Higgs boson by the ATLAS and CMS experiments. The work of the ATLAS group at LAPP was essential for this discovery. The LAPP scientists working on the ATLAS experiment, who were involved in this discovery, propose a public event to understand this major discovery. The conference (in French only) will take place on 5 July at LAPP, from 6 to 7pm. This event will celebrate discovery, provide a glimpse of what has been learned since, and take a look at what is yet to come. Interested people will also be able to visit the EUTOPIA Discovery Space for privileged exchanges with the scientists before or after the conference. As the number of places is limited, registration is mandatory.
FR: En 2022, le CERN célèbre les 10 ans de la découverte du boson de Higgs par les expériences ATLAS et CMS. Les travaux du groupe ATLAS au LAPP ont été déterminants pour cette découverte.
Les scientifiques du LAPP travaillant sur l’expérience ATLAS, qui ont participé à cette découverte, proposent un événement grand public pour comprendre cette découverte majeure.
La conférence aura lieu le 5 juillet de 18h à 19h au LAPP. Cet événement célébrera la découverte, donnera un aperçu de ce qui a été appris depuis et jettera un regard sur ce qui reste à venir.
Les personnes intéressées pourront également visiter l’Espace Découvertes EUTOPIA pour des échanges privilégiés avec les scientifiques avant ou après la conférence.
Le nombre de places étant limité, les inscriptions sont obligatoires.
