EPS HEPP Division announces the winners of its 2013 prizes
The EPS High Energy Physics Division announces the winners of its 2013 prizes, which will be awarded at the Europhysics Conference on High-Energy Physics (EPS-HEP 2013), Stockholm (Sweden) 18-24 July 2013 (http://eps-hep2013.eu/):
The 2013 High Energy and Particle Physics Prize, for an outstanding contribution to High Energy Physics, is awarded to the ATLAS and CMS collaborations, "for the discovery of a Higgs boson, as predicted by the Brout-Englert-Higgs mechanism", and to Michel Della Negra, Peter Jenni, and Tejinder Virdee, "for their pioneering and outstanding leadership rôles in the making of the ATLAS and CMS experiments".
The 2013 Giuseppe and Vanna Cocconi Prize, for an outstanding contribution to Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology in the past 15 years, is awarded to Arthur B. McDonald and Yoichiro Suzuki "for their outstanding contributions to the solution of the solar neutrino puzzle by measuring the flux of all neutrino flavors from the Sun with the Super-Kamiokande and SNO experiments".
The 2013 Gribov Medal, for outstanding work by a young physicist in Theoretical Particle Physics and/or Field Theory, is awarded to Zohar Komargodski "for his deep insights into the structure of the renormalization group in four-dimensional field theories and, in particular, his proof (with Adam Schwimmer) of the a-theorem".
The 2013 Young Experimental Physicist Prize, for outstanding work by one or more young physicists in the field of Particle Physics and/or Particle Astrophysics, is awarded to Diego Martinez Santos “for his outstanding contributions to the trigger and commissioning of the LHCb experiment, and the analyses leading to first evidence for the rare decay B0s-->µ+µ-".
The 2013 Outreach Prize, for outstanding outreach achievement connected with High Energy Physics and/or Particle Astrophysics, is awarded to Don Lincoln, "for communicating in multiple media the excitement of High Energy Physics to high-school students and teachers, and the public at large".
